SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police used a different approach to bring awareness about DUIs.
In recent weeks, the traffic unit’s DUI officers have been visiting multiple bars and restaurants with breathalyzers. They were out educating people about how impairment can affect them, and asked if they knew how impaired they were.
People who volunteered guessed their blood alcohol level, and then blew into a breathalyzer to find out if they were above the legal limit to drive.
The Spokane Police Department partnered up with the Greater Spokane Substance Abuse Council for the “Know Your Limit” program.
In a Facebook post, SPD wrote, “The community members and alcohol establishments welcomed the officers to come into their establishments and provide education on the safety of drinking responsibly. They have enjoyed the interaction with their patrons and believe this is a great way to keep their community safe.”
SPD added that if you would like more information on the “Know your Limits Program” or to invite one of our officers into your drinking establishment, contact the Spokane Police Department Traffic Unit at spdwebmail@spokanepolice.org.
