SPOKANE — A new pizza restaurant with a jungle theme has opened in downtown Spokane, bringing wood-fired pizzas and creatively named menu items to the city’s dining scene.
The Smoking Monkey opened its doors in the brick building that previously housed Fire Pizza, located across from the Davenport Hotel at 816 W. Sprague Avenue. The restaurant marks the chain’s eastward expansion from its established locations in Seattle and Renton.
The menu features jungle-themed items ranging from appetizers to full meals, including “Tarzan’s Bread Sticks,” “Jalapeño Cigars” and “Monkey King’s Feast.” The restaurant serves wood-fired pizzas, calzones, pastas and various appetizers.
“We love it down here, it gets a lot of business traffic and that’s what we’re trying to do,” said a restaurant representative. “We get a bunch of lunch specials for a lot of people, doing pizza by the slices, salad combos, those kinds of things for lunch.” Said Sirena Mercado.
Mercado, who works at The Smoking Monkey, said the artwork and atmosphere of the building complement the restaurant’s concept well.
The Smoking Monkey is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
