MOSCOW, Idaho – What’s more intimidating than a potato? The Idaho Vandals are hoping to mash the St. Thomas Tigers in this weekend’s home opener and they’ll honor the state’s agricultural history when they do.
Idaho teamed up with The Field Rush to create helmets for this weekend’s game that carry the words ‘Fightin’ Taters.’
Fitting, as this weekend’s game is sponsored by the Idaho Potato Commission.
The commission will also bring its 70-foot long Big Potato Truck (think Weinermobile, but a potato), along with Idaho Potato Commission mascot Spuddy Buddy.
“The University of Idaho already has one of the most unique mascots and brands in all of college athletics,” Assistant Athletic Director for Brand Engagement and Digital Strategy Jerek Wolcott said. “This was an opportunity to celebrate our state and our tremendous agricultural history while partnering with the creative minds at Field Rush for a game sponsored by the Idaho Potato Commission. Everything came together for this week for something truly unique, and we couldn’t be more excited to see this alternate brand on the field.”
Fans can also buy Fightin’ Taters t-shirts.
The Vandals are coming off a first-game loss to Washington State.
Kickoff is at 1 p.m. in the Kibbie Dome.
