STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — Fire crews in Stevens County are busy fighting multiple fires, including a 200-acre wildfire burning near Kettle Falls on Sunday, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
On Friday, firefighters responded to a wildfire burning about six miles northwest of Kettle Falls, also known as the “Katy Creek Fire.”
USDA said the fire was sparked by lightning near the Three Rivers Ranger District.
As of Sunday afternoon, it is burning at roughly 200-acres, or just under half a square mile.
The fire is expected to grow overnight as hot and windy weather conditions continue.
USDA said the Katy Creek Fire is one of nearly 15 fires started by recent lightning.
Visitors are asked to avoid the area for public and firefighter safety.
No evacuations are currently in place.
The Katy Creek Fire is one of several fires burning in Stevens County on Sunday afternoon, including a 1,139-acre fire near Northport and a 22-acre wildfire burning near Colville.
