METALLINE FALLS, Wash. — A Metaline Falls man has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in the death of his son last week.
58-year-old Randy Holter is accused of holding his son, 34-year-old Casey Holter, in a chokehold leading to his death on August 21. Randy faces first and second-degree manslaughter.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Randy and Casey went golfing earlier that day. The two then went and got food at a Mexican restaurant and were drinking. Documents say they also went to the American Legion and drank before going to Randy’s home and drinking further.
Border Patrol agents were dispatched to the home around 10 p.m. for reports of Casey being intoxicated and possibly on drugs.
Randy told law enforcement he and Casey had got into a fight. During the altercation, Randy said Casey tried to go after his mother. Randy said he put Casey into a chokehold multiple times attempting to calm him down.
When law enforcement arrived, Randy had Casey in a chokehold. Border Patrol agents pulled the father off his son and began giving medical aid to Casey. Agents said his pulse was weak and he was not breathing normally. Casey died at the scene.
Randy was arrested for manslaughter. He was arraigned Thursday, August 28 and pleaded not guilty to his two charges.
The jury trial is set to begin October 16.
