SPOKANE, Wash. — You’ll pay more to park at the Spokane County Courthouse starting in October when the county implements the first significant parking fee increase in nearly two decades.
The Spokane County Board of Commissioners decided earlier this month to raise parking fees by about 70 cents more per hour, as part of an effort to better manage parking expenses in the county budget.
The county says the increase brings county parking rates in line with what other Spokane area locations charge for parking.
“Even with the increases, we will not come back into the black, but it’s at least a step forward as we look at trying to right our parking fees, as well as try to solve for budget issues next year and in future years,” said Ashley Cloud, senior director of Human Resources for Spokane County.
The county currently covers most parking costs using money from its general fund.
Along with the fee increase, the county will replace aging coin-operated meters with digital payment systems that allow drivers to pay directly from their phones.
