SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Pallets inside a metal foundry in Spokane Valley caught fire Monday evening.
According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department, the fire happened in Building 1 of the Spokane Industrial Park around 5 p.m.
Employees reported that risers and pallets were burning and the building was evacuated.
First responders arrived to see a large, single-story commercial foundry with smoke coming from the east entrance.
The foundry supervisor told firefighters that some materials could react dangerously with water. Firefighters ended up extinguishing the fire and employees moved the burned items outside for monitoring.
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. Another firefighter was treated for a foreign object in their eye.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
