SPOKANE, Wash. — As temperatures continue to rise into the start of the week, you’ll want to make sure you’re doing what you can to stay cool and safe.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), moderate and major heat risks are on the way through August 12 for Spokane, Moses Lake, Coeur d’Alene and the surrounding areas.
Spokane will experience moderate heat on Monday and major heat on Tuesday.
Moderate heat is dangerous to those sensitive to the heat, especially those without effective cooling and adequate hydration.
Major heat is dangerous to anyone without effective cooling or hydration.
NWS said, during the extreme heat, it’s important to:
Hydrate – drink before you are thirsty
Wear light clothing – light material and color
Use Air Conditioning – fans and open windows will not be enough
Avoid Outdoor Activities – between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Those in Spokane in need of a break from the heat can access Spokane Public Library locations for an air-conditioned space. Libraries are open seven days a week, Monday – Saturday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Spokane Parks & Recreation splash pads and pools are also great places to cool off for free.
