SPOKANE, Wash. — Astronaut and Spokane native Anne McClain is back on solid ground following her journey to the International Space Station.
McClain blasted into space in March of this year to rescue two astronauts who were stranded on the International Space Station. It was McClain’s second spaceflight.
“Spaceflight has always been a life goal, and it has turned into a life-fulfilling endeavor – but not for the reasons I thought growing up,” McClain said in a post on X/Twitter. “When I was young, I pictured the launch, the incredible ball of fire and the acceleration, the spacewalks (how could you not wonder what it’s like to be in that suit?), and I was fascinated by the shuttles, capsules, and stations. But as I complete this second mission living and working in space, what draws me to this job is the people.”
McClain graduated from Gonzaga Prep and later attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point before becoming an astronaut. Her achievements are celebrated by many across the region.
McClain and the other astronauts from Crew-10 successfully splashed down off the coast of California early Saturday morning. You can watch a video of the re-entry and splashdown by clicking here.
