SPOKANE VALLEY — A 6-year-old boy is recovering from life-threatening injuries after being hit by an alleged drunk driver while riding his bicycle Tuesday night in Spokane Valley.
Ephraim suffered extensive injuries in the crash, including a broken femur, jaw and pelvis, along with damage to his internal organs, according to his family’s GoFundMe page.
Police arrested 69-year-old John Lassey at the scene. He was later charged with vehicular assault.
Ephraim’s family has asked the community to “continue to pray for him” as he recovers in the hospital. So far, the GoFundMe has already raised more than $12,000.
After the driver hit Ephraim, he crashed into Marcy James’ house.
Despite the extensive property damage, James said her concern was for Ephraim and his family.
“My house is just a thing,” James said. “It’s going to get fixed. It’s not a big deal, but this is a kid’s life and the family’s life. And if there’s any way at all I can help them get the resources they need, then that’s why I’m doing this.”
James and other neighbors have been sharing the GoFundMe in hopes of getting Ephraim and his family the support they need during this difficult time.
“We’re just so worried about Ephraim and the outcome of this for him and what kind of challenges he’s going to face because of it,” James said.
The GoFundMe says donations will help the family cover expenses as they take time away from work to stay at Ephraim’s side during his recovery.
