NEWMAN LAKE, Wash. — A man was arrested for allegedly shooting at a home in Newman Lake.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a drive-by shooting Saturday night around 9:30 p.m. Deputies found several people at the home, but thankfully, no one was injured.
During the investigation, deputies identified 32-year-old Robert D. Utecht as the suspect. They say witnesses described seeing Utecht’s vehicle, a dark blue/teal Chevrolet Tahoe with a loud muffler, driving slowly by the residence.
When it did, multiple gunshots were heard, causing the victims to take cover to avoid being shot, as the vehicle sped off.
Deputies say Utecht had a protection order which prohibited him from being within 1000 feet of the victim’s property.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says soon after they formed a perimeter around Utecht’s home on N. Sedge Lane south of N. Baneberry Lane in Liberty Lake.
They were assisted by Liberty Lake Police, K9 Units, and a UAV operator. After several PA announcements just before midnight, Utecht surrendered.
He was booked into jail and faces multiple charges of 1st degree assault, drive-by shooting, and two counts of violating a protection order with assault.
Utecht’s bond was set at $500,000, and he remains behind bars.
