SPOKANE, Wash. — More seniors in Spokane now have a little less to worry about now that the food pantry shelves at Meals on Wheels are no longer bare.
On August 2, 4 News Now reported the emergency food pantry at Meals on Wheels in downtown Spokane had been bare for weeks, leaving multiple seniors without the food they depend on.
For many of the seniors they serve, the lunch they get on-site is their only hot meal of the day.
After the story, the pantry was flooded with donations. Staff had to set up an overflow room to accommodate all of the donated items.
“I am both in awe and humbled to see the outreach of what this amazing community does to support its older adults,” said Executive Director of Meals on Wheels, Owen Esperas.
Esperas said the organization’s dream is to continue expanding its pantry.
Meals on Wheels accepts non-perishable items, hygiene products and monetary donations.
