SPOKANE, Wash. — Firefighters pulled a man and his dog from the banks of the Spokane River on Monday evening.
Around 5:30 p.m. on August 4, Spokane Fire Department responded to a report of a man and his dog in need of assistance on the banks of the Spokane River in Riverfront Park.
The man, who identified himself as Chase, told 4 News Now he was playing catch with his two-year-old black lab, Bobby, when Bobby jumped over one of the stone walls in the park.
“I think he saw a bird,” Chase said.
Chase went over the wall after Bobby and climbed down the steep hill to the banks of the river.
Chase said once SFD arrived, firefighters pulled him and Bobby back up to the park with a harness.
He also said he and Bobby were stung by multiple yellowjackets while by the river.
Bobby sustained a minor injury to one of his back legs, which firefighters treated and bandaged.
“Crazy dog,” Chase said between giving Bobby plenty of pets.
