SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane County Regional Water Reclamation Facility will be conducting a study on the Spokane River next week that will require red dye to be put into the water.
SCRWRF says the test is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 5 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The study, which is required by the Washington State Department of Ecology, involves adding environmentally-safe red due into the water before it enters the river. The dye will allow specialists to analyze how the effluent from the facility mixes into the river as well as interactions between the aquifer and the river in the area.
The effluent enters the river just east of Spokane Community College. the dye will be best viewed at the intersection of North Havana Street and East Upriver Drive, but it will be visible for up to a half-mile downstream.
The people conducting the test will use a boat to access different locations and depths of the river to gather data on dye concentrations.
A drone will also be used to capture aerial views of the dye mixing.
