SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown ordered all flags at city facilities to be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of Spokane native and baseball Hall of Fame legend Ryne Sandberg.
Sandberg passed away on Monday. He was a former standout at North Central High School.
“Ryne was a hometown hero whose impact reached far beyond Spokane. He left a lasting mark on baseball and all those who knew him. The City of Spokane sends its deepest sympathies to his family,” Mayor Brown said.
Flags will stay lowered through Thursday morning.
The city encourages anyone with a flag outside of their home or business to join in the recognition.
