SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane will pay a nearly $4 million settlement to the estate of a man shot and killed by police in 2022.
On Monday, Spokane City Council voted to approve payment of a multi-million dollar settlement to the estate of Robert Bradley.
The settlement is the result of a federal lawsuit filed by Bradley’s estate that argued Spokane Police ambushed Bradley at his Hillyard home and failed to clearly identify themselves and give Bradley time to respond.
The city will pay roughly $200,000, while the city’s insurance company will pay the remainder in exchange for the case to be dropped.
The payment was approved by city council in a 4-2 vote, with Councilmembers Cathcart and Bingle voting against.
Multiple people spoke in favor of the payment during the meeting’s public comment period.
“The money’s not nearly enough, we need accountability, we need justice, the family is not getting justice,” said one speaker.
