SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Deputies arrested a man for stealing a camper trailer from an Airway Heights business on Tuesday, according to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 1 p.m. on July 22, SCSO deputies responded to a reported possible crash near Division Street and Farwell Road in north Spokane.
A caller told deputies they saw an SUV pulling a camper possibly hit some trees and almost hit a fence, causing the caller to believe the driver might be impaired.
When deputies arrived, they found the camper and noticed a white Jeep parked near it. The deputy did not observe any signs of impairment and did not approach the driver.
Upon further investigation, the deputy learned the driver of the Jeep was 48-year-old Aaron J. Leigh and the camper was registered to a business in Airway Heights.
The deputy reached out to the business and learned the trailer, valued at roughly $40,000, was supposed to be parked on the lot and had been stolen.
Deputies developed probable cause to charge Leigh with theft.
He was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail for first-degree theft. SCSO said Airway Heights Police are also investigating several additional, but unrelated, thefts in connection to Leigh.
