NORTHPORT, Wash. — Containment continues to grow for an over 7,800-acre wildfire burning near Kettle Falls.
According to the latest update, the Hope Fire has burned 7,891 acres and is 55% contained.
On Monday, fire crews removed hazardous trees along Road 300 and Crown Creek Road. Hotspots were mopped up in the fire as well.
Crews will work Tuesday to install water bars for erosion control and continue mop-up on the fire. Prep work will also be finished for planned burns in the area.
All Level 3 (GO NOW) evacuations have been lifted. Level 1 and 2 evacuations remain in place around the fire area. You can see the live evacuation map by clicking here.
The Red Cross Shelter at Kettle Falls Middle School is now only open on an on-call basis. The animal evacuation shelter at the Northeast Washington Fairgrounds in Colville is still open.
Nortport Flat Creek Road, Lael Road and Crown Creek Road are still closed for public access.
