Update, 8:15 p.m. Stevens County Fire District 1 says the wildfire burning near Tumtum is now estimated to be around 575 acres.
Progression on the fire is being slowed by air and ground crews and the fire will be heavily staffed overnight.
Firefighters say all evacuations will remain in place, but evacuations are being evaluated constantly.
Update, 7:20 p.m. The American Red Cross has opened an evacuation shelter at Lakeside High School for anyone who has been evacuated.
The Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office has approved fire mobilization for the fire.
The fire, referred to as the Lake Spokane Fire, is estimated to be at 350 acres and growing.
The Fire Marshals say it is burning in timber and brush and threatening homes in the area.
Evacuations are currently in place for the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Update, 6:30 p.m. Stevens County Fire District 1 says winds have picked up, but air teams are making progress on the fire.
Fire District 1 says part of the fire is in very rugged terrain and helicopters will be used heavily to try and get a handle on the fire.
Update, 5:32 p.m. Stevens County Fire District 1 says the fire is being pushed to the northwest.
An incident management team has been requested. Stevens County Emergency Management will be contacting the American Red Cross about setting up an evacuation shelter.
State Route 291 is closed at Corkscrew Canyon Road due to the fire until further notice, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Update, 5:05 p.m. Stevens County Emergency Management says the fire is now estimated to be 200 to 250 acres.
Level 3 (GO NOW) evacuations are in place on the north side of Highway 291. Please avoid the area.
At least one structure has been lost in the fire so far. Other structures in the area are currently threatened by the fire.
Update, 4:42 p.m. State Route 291 is closed at Corkscrew Canyon Road due to the fire until further notice, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Stevens County Emergency Management estimates the fire to be 75 acres.

STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — Firefighters are responding to a large multi-acre fire between Tumtum and Corkscrew Canyon in Stevens County.
According to Stevens County Fire District 1, evacuations are in place in the area.
The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office says air assets will be scooping water from Long Lake. Boaters should stay out of the area.
