KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — An 8-year-old child was taken to the hospital for a tubing accident on Lake Coeur d’Alene Saturday afternoon.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, a pontoon boat was pulling the child on a tube behind the boat around 3:50 p.m.
The child got caught in the boat’s propeller, causing deep lacerations to both legs.
Marine deputies had to put a tourniquet above the wound.
The child was taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
KCSO reminds everyone to take extra safety measures while on the water.
When approaching a tuber in the water, your boat must be turned off once you get close enough to the person. Just placing the engine in neutral is not safe enough.
A competent observer is also required and should help with the rope and ensure the safety of tubers.
Riding outside the seating area of the boat is also prohibited by law and not helpful to people in the water.
