BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho Transportation Department is warning people of a scam text going around demanding money for unpaid traffic tickets.
ITD says the text lists specific actions that will be taken if payment is not received immediately and includes a link for people to enter payment information.
These messages are scams; do not click on the links or try to pay through the links.
ITD says it does not send texts related to unpaid traffic tickets or fines. It will also not demand payment or provide links to unfamiliar websites.
To protect yourself from scams, do not click any unfamiliar links or provide personal or payment information.
If you receive a scam text, report it to the Federal Trade Commission here.
If you’re worried about any potential traffic violations you may have, you can view the status of those on the ITD website here.
