NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – A Florida sex offender who has evaded law enforcement for more than a year was arrested by U.S. Marshals in New Orleans.
Christian Bert Fischer was previously spotted near Athol, Idaho but got away before he could be arrested.
Fischer was arrested in 2022 in Florida on charges he traveled to meet a minor he lured on the internet.
He was on trial but out on bond in February 2024 when he failed to show up to court.
The trial went on without him and he was convicted in absentia.
It’s not clear how long he had been in Athol when marshals tried to arrest him there in October 2024.
Thursday night, U.S. Marshals and law enforcement from several jurisdictions tracked him down and arrested him in downtown New Orleans.
They say he initially provided a fake name to investigators, but later revealed his identity.
