SPOKANE, Wash. — The woman who died while running on Spokane’s South Hill Wednesday morning was a well-known member of the medical community.
Sarah Doxey worked at CHAS Health in Spokane. She was a mother of two and an avid runner.
“CHAS Health is shocked and grieving the tragic passing of our Chief Operating Officer, Sarah Doxey,” CHAS Health said in a statement. “Sarah was a key member of our Leadership Team, and her wisdom, kindness, and professional contributions will be greatly missed. We appreciate your understanding during this difficult time.“

Providence Inland Northwest says Sarah started as a practice manager in 2013 at the Providence Orthopedics and Digestive Health clinics. She joined the leadership team at Providence as the director of pediatrics in 2019. She served in that role until 2023.
“Throughout her ten years with Providence, Sarah was the embodiment of a servant leader,” Providence said in a social media post. “Her innovative contributions and commitment to excellence played an instrumental role in shaping the success of our pediatrics department. Sarah’s spirit and dedication will continue to resonate throughout our ministry for years to come.”
According to court documents, Sarah was running with her friend on South Perry Street around 5:30 a.m. when a 17-year-old, suspected of being under the influence, hit her.
Multiple witnesses say the teen hit Sarah, then ran the SUV into a tree.
Court documents say the teen got out of the car and ran through Manito Country Club golf course. Witnesses took photos of the teen running from the scene and sent them to police.
Sarah’s friend called 911, and other people nearby came out to help.
When officers arrived, documents say Sarah was lying in the street. She was unconscious and not breathing. She was taken to the hospital and later died from her injuries.
The court documents say the teen was arrested near South Meadow Lane Road and West Eagle Ridge Boulevard about 30 minutes after the crash. Officers say the teen was bleeding from his nose and missing his shoes. The officer also said his sock and the lower part of his pants were wet from water.
Officers say the teen smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot and watery eyes. The teen also failed a field sobriety test.
The teen was arrested for vehicular assault, felony hit and run and driving under the influence. He was booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center.
Thursday morning, the teen appeared in court and the judge denied his release from custody.
An arraignment hearing is set for July 23.
