COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Idaho U.S. Representative Russ Fulcher took time on the House floor Tuesday to honor the three firefighters who were ambushed while responding to a wildfire near Coeur d’Alene last month.
Battalion Chiefs John Morrison and Frank Harwood were shot and killed by a gunman while responding to a wildfire near Canfield Mountain. Fire Engineer Dave Tysdal was also shot but survived the attack and is credited with alerting other responders not to come up the mountain.
“This evil act against our firefighters does not represent the Idaho way,” Fulcher said. “I ask all Idahoans and Americans to pray for full recovery for Mr. Tysdal; for comfort for all families involved. These men represent the very best of Idaho. Their courage, heroism and dedication will never be forgotten.”
Tysdal received a hero’s send-off Monday as he was transported to a rehabilitation center in Colorado. The gunshot wound also caused broken ribs, a collapsed lung and spinal swelling.
His fellow firefighters said Tysdal has been unable to move his legs since the shooting, but began moving his toes on his left foot Sunday.
