SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Deputies arrested a man for starting a brush fire north of the Country Homes area in Spokane County on Sunday, according to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 6 p.m. on July 13, SCSO deputies responded to a brush fire near Hastings Road and Highway 395. Several callers reported seeing a man with curly, long hair wearing red shorts run from the fire.
Spokane County Fire District 9 quickly put out the flames.
Deputies soon found the suspect, identified as 55-year-old Thomas Jones, nearby. SCSO said Jones was ‘flailing his arms and legs about and mumbling incoherently.’
During a search, deputies found in Jones’ possession a torch, can of butane, a lighter, a suspected meth pipe and a small bag of what they believed to be fentanyl.
Jones was booked into the Spokane County Jail for reckless burning.
