COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The heart of the Coeur d’Alene community was on display this week, as people gathered to honor two firefighters killed in the line of duty.
Mourners lined the street Thursday as the funeral procession carried Coeur d’Alene Fire Battalion Chief John Morrison through downtown to the Hagadone Event Center for his celebration of life.
The same path was traced Friday for Kootenai Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Frank Harwood.
Morrison and Harwood were shot in late June while responding to a fire on Canfield Mountain.
Coeur d’Alene Fire Engineer Dave Tysdal was also shot and is recovering from serious injuries.

“This horrific event has brought unimaginable sorrow, but it has also revealed the very best of who we are,” said Coeur d’Alene Mayor Woody McEvers. “The compassion, generosity, and unity shown by our residents, businesses, and visitors have been nothing short of extraordinary. From the lining of the streets during the funeral processions to the countless acts of kindness and support, your response has been deeply moving and profoundly appreciated.”
“While this has been one of the toughest weeks we’ve ever faced, the strength and spirit of people from every walk of life and every corner of society have been a blessing. On behalf of the City, thank you for standing together, for lifting each other up, and for showing the true heart of Coeur d’Alene.”
