MOSES LAKE, Wash. — The Moses Lake City Council approved a temporary exemption that will allow the Moses Lake School District to irrigate school sports fields as needed through November.
This exemption means the district does not have to follow citywide irrigation restrictions that are in place.
The district says without this exemption, the city’s three-day watering schedule would have risked significant turf loss on high-use fields.
MLSD said it plans to prioritize fields that receive a lot of use, including those at Park Orchard Elementary, North Elementary, Groff Elementary, Sage Point Elementary, Endeavor Middle School and Larson Heights Elementary.
“While the exemption allows for increased flexibility, MLSD will continue to maximize efficiency by watering during cooler hours and using zone-based scheduling to minimize waste,” the district said in a press release. “The district maintains an ongoing commitment to identifying and implementing alternative watering sources in an effort to reduce long-term reliance on the city’s potable water system.”
