COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The KXLY Radio Group raised over $25,000 for first responders and fallen firefighters through their “Honor Our Fallen” fundraiser at Anchored Coffee locations.
The money goes to the Red and Blue Foundation, which supports first responders across the Inland Northwest.
“We’ve had great support. We don’t take for granted that our community is really the backbone of our entire wellbeing,” said Jason Mealer, president of the Red and Blue Foundation. “Without the support from them, we wouldn’t be successful.”
The Jay and Kevin Show hosts on Big 99.9 Coyote Country said they wanted to help after listeners contacted them asking how they could contribute.
“We had a lot of our listeners immediately contact us and say how can we help?” said Jay Daniels. “I think that was an overwhelming majority who didn’t know exactly what to do but want to do something. The Red & Blue Foundation made it super easy.”
Daniels said he was heartbroken when he first heard the news.
“We’re fired up to be able to do something. Everybody’s been waiting until we did the right thing at the time,” Daniels said.
Anchored Coffee owner Kassi Allen, who serves on the Red and Blue Foundation board, said the fundraiser honored first responders who helped the Coeur d’Alene community.
“All of the donations that come to us year-round go back to our first responders. Specifically this one, 100% of those are going to the families,” Allen said. “So we will compile those and assist them in any way that we can.”
The Red and Blue Foundation has more fundraisers planned with other community partners. The foundation also provides mental health clinicians for first responders.
People can still donate online directly through the Red and Blue Foundation website.
