NEWMAN LAKE, Wash. — UPDATED at 6 p.m. on July 9 – The smoke has died down significantly for the 2-acre brush fire burning near Newman Lake on Wednesday afternoon.
Around 3:30 p.m., fire crews responded to a reported brush fire in Newman Lake on Wednesday afternoon, according to Department of Natural Resources.
As of 6 p.m., 10 fire engines had responded to the fire, including engines from Spokane and Kootenai Counties.
As of 6:20 p.m., no evacuations have been issued for the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighters responded to a brush fire in Newman Lake on Wednesday afternoon, according to Department of Natural Resources.
Around 4 p.m. on July 9, firefighters responded to a brush fire near North Starr Road and North East Newman Lake Drive.
Around 5:30 p.m., DNR told 4 News Now that the fire was burning on about two acres, which is equal to about one-and-a-half football fields.
Three engines are currently responding.
