SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Detectives are investigating vandalism that caused an estimated $12,500 in damage to Greenacres Park during its renovation.
The Spokane Valley Investigative Unit (SVIU) seeks information about suspects who damaged a recently resurfaced basketball court and newly planted tree at the park, located at 1311 N. Long Road.
According to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the vandalism report at 9:15 a.m. on July 7, 2025, after a city Parks and Recreation employee discovered the damage.
Investigators believe suspects used construction equipment, specifically a skid steer, to vandalize the park between 9 a.m. on July 4 and 8 a.m. on July 6, 2025.
SCSO stated the park was undamaged on July 4, but a contractor discovered the vandalism on July 6 while arriving to activate sprinklers for newly planted trees and sod.
The vandalism has delayed the renovation project and inconvenienced park users anticipating the upgraded facilities.
