SPOKANE, Wash. – 4 News Now is once again tracking price changes on four common household items: a pineapple from Mexico, a Barbie doll from Indonesia, a t-shirt from Jordan, and a car headlight bulb from China. This month shows mixed results.
When imported goods enter the U.S., tariffs are applied. Tariffs are a type of tax. The percentages vary.
The tracking started in April when people wondered how Trump’s tariffs would affect items they buy at stores. People still have that concern today.
Since our check-in last month, three items have stayed at the same price: the pineapple from Mexico, the Barbie doll from Indonesia, and the car headlight bulb from China.
The t-shirt from Walmart was the only item to show a price increase. It went up $1 from last month.
Price changes don’t always mean tariffs caused them. Many things can make prices go up or down.
Current tariff rates vary by product and country. These rates can change based on presidential trade decisions.
On July 8th, prices on various items included:
1 Gold Pineapple at the grocery store (grown in Mexico) – $5.491 Barbie Doll at Walmart (made in Indonesia) – $12.941 plain white t-shirt at Walmart (made in Jordan) – $7.98 1 car light bulb at local auto store (made in China) – $7.99
4 News Now will continue to monitor these costs to see if and how the tariffs affect our local goods.
