MOSES LAKE, Wash. — A wastewater line break discovered Monday morning has prompted city officials to warn the public to stay out of the water at two popular Moses Lake parks as a health and safety precaution.
The Moses Lake Wastewater Division issued the advisory for Montlake Park, McCosh Park and other shoreline properties after crews found the break at 6:30 a.m. on July 7. The damaged line is located on the lake’s shoreline near the intersection of West Lakeside Drive and South D Street.
City officials stopped all wastewater flows to the broken line and began repair efforts immediately. The advisory serves as a health and safety precautionary measure while crews work to fix the problem.
According to the Moses Lake’s Wastewater Division, both parks will remain open during repairs, including the boat launch at Montlake Park. However, visitors will see safety signs posted at waterfront areas warning against water contact.
Both parks use lake water for irrigation, and city staff will shut down these systems as needed based on ongoing safety assessments.
City officials are delivering informational flyers to lakefront property owners and coordinating with the Washington State Departments of Health and Ecology.
The city will post updates on cityofml.com and social media channels. Residents with questions can call the city phone number and select option 8.
City officials have not provided a timeline for completing repairs or lifting the water advisory.
Until further notice, the public should avoid all water activities in the affected areas.
