AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — The city of Airway Heights welcomed the community to take a tour of the new fire station on Friday.
The new firehouse on South Garfield Street is one of the safety upgrades the community voted for in 2023.
The old station was built in the 1960s. It underwent several renovations over the years and was simply not able to properly serve the growing region anymore.
Firefighters say they are looking forward to using the station’s new amenities, especially when the weather gets colder.
“There are so many things that we’re excited for. The base space alone, having all our trucks on one side. The space around them, being able to wash and clean them during inclement weather instead of being outside,” said Assistant Fire Chief Nate Wannell.
This renovation is part of a broader plan to upgrade public safety services in the area.
There will be two more phases to get the rest of the $8 million public safety building built out.
The next phase will focus on the police department, courts and city hall.
