MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho has “become stronger” in the wake of the murder of four students, and the university community will heal now that the man accused of killing them has pleaded guilty.
That’s what the university said in a statement Wednesday, after Bryan Kohberger pleaded guilty.
U of I students Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle were stabbed to death in an off-campus home in 2022.
“We will never forget the four incredible lives taken on King Road, they are forever Vandals and each holds a place in our Vandal Family,” the statement reads. “Since that fateful day in November 2022 our university has become stronger, more intent on its purpose and more supportive of each other.”
U of I held memorial services on campus and has since built a healing garden to honor these victims and other Vandals who have passed away.
“While we will not forget, we will heal,” the statement says. “Our Vandal Healing Garden and Memorial is a testament to what a community can accomplish through shared experience.”
The university also bought the home on King Road and tore it down, despite criticism from some that it should be left up until after a trial.
