SPOKANE, Wash. – Midfielder Nil Vinyals scored his first goal with the Velocity FC after joining the club this season. The goal came against Texoma FC that ended in a 1-1 draw.
Vinyals said the goal was extra special with his mom in town and in the crowd Wednesday night.
“I saw it was one v one inside of the box so I just took my chance,” said Vinyals. “It was a special moment.”
The Velocity scored just one point in Wednesday’s match at ONE Spokane Stadium, succumbing to a second half Texoma FC goal to tie things up. Head coach Leigh Veidman said it’s a game his team should have won, but looking at the season as a whole is something to celebrate and continue to build off of.
“Collectively across the board, the guys have done a fantastic job to this point. I mean we’ve already got more points today than we finished with in the season last year… but we’re only halfway. We’ve still got a long way to go,” said head coach Leigh Veidman.
Velocity FC continues their campaign at Westchester SC on July 16. The club is back in Spokane on July 26.
