COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – An annual 4th of July tradition in Coeur d’Alene will take on special meaning this year, as the community grieves the loss of two fallen firefighters.
Frank Harwood and John Morrison were shot to death while responding to a wildfire in Coeur d’Alene Sunday.
They’ll be honored at the start American Heroes Parade down Sherman Avenue Friday morning.
“This year’s parade will hold even deeper meaning as we recognize not only our military heroes, past and present, but also the incredible courage of our first responders,” said Linda Coppess, President and CEO of the Coeur d’Alene Region Chamber of Commerce. “We are working closely behind the scenes with our local fire departments and union representatives to ensure there is an appropriate and respectful tribute that has the full support of the organizations and families involved.”
They’re finalizing details now, but plan to begin the parade with two riderless horses in tribute to the fallen heroes.
They also plan to honor Coeur d’Alene Fire Engineer Dave Tysdal, who is recovering from injuries he sustained in Sunday’s attack.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the families of our fallen and injured heroes,” Coppess said. “On Friday, we will gather not only in celebration but in solidarity—to lift one another up, to remember, and to honor the service and sacrifice of those who protect our lives and our freedoms.”
