Sabrina Carpenter is in her pop chaos era, and I’m absolutely here for it.
When she first revealed the cover for her upcoming album Man’s Best Friend, the internet went into overdrive. The image—Sabrina on her knees in front of a man gripping a fistful of her hair—was provocative, dramatic, and totally on-brand for someone who’s been serving main pop girl energy all year. As a fan of the original artwork (and of Sabrina in general), I thought it was bold and cheeky in the best way.
But not everyone saw it that way. The cover sparked some backlash online, with critics calling it “sexist” and questioning the imagery. Whether Sabrina was responding to that or just leaning further into the playful controversy, she surprised fans yesterday with an alternate version.
This new cover has Sabrina standing tall, gripping the arm of a man in a suit, while a few other suited-up men linger in the background. She captioned the reveal on Instagram, “approved by God”—because of course she did. It’s camp. It’s calculated. It’s everything.
Whatever message she’s sending (or mocking), one thing’s for sure: Sabrina knows exactly what she’s doing. Man’s Best Friend arrives August 29, and with all this build-up, it’s safe to say we’re in for something unforgettable.
