SPOKANE, Wash. — If you’re trying to keep your grass soft and green as the days get hotter, make sure you’re following the City of Spokane’s outdoor watering schedule.
Through October 1, homeowners in the City of Spokane are required to follow the Drought Response Measures Ordinance, which aims to conserve the city’s water supply during our hottest months.
The ordinance applies to all Spokane water customers, including commercial, residential and multi-family customers. Exemptions are allowed for trees, newly planted landscapes, vegetable gardens and to mitigate wildfire risks.
To comply with the ordinance, odd addresses are to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while even addresses are to water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sunday.
The City of Spokane says following an odd-even watering schedule promotes root growth, reduces demand on the city’s water system and protects the Spokane River against drought.
Restrictions change depending on the official Spokane River drought conditions. During Level 1 conditions, no watering should be done between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and landscape irrigation should be limited to four days per week or less.
During Level 2 drought conditions, landscape irrigation should be limited to two days per week, two hours per day and no water may be used to clean hardscapes.
