SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — The Spokane County Board of Commissioners approved Tuesday hundreds of thousands of additional dollars-worth of funds to go toward combatting the county’s opioid crisis.
The County Commissioners unanimously approved $400,000 of additional opioid settlement funds to go toward expanding existing services, in partnership with the City of Spokane.
The funds will go toward the Sobering Triage and Transitions (STaT) program, operated by Spokane Treatment and Recovery Services (STARS).
“The goal of this partnership serves to expand access to more immediate treatment services for individuals impacted by the Opioid Crisis within Spokane County,” the announcement reads.
The additional funds brings the total annual operation funding for the efforts to $600,000.
County Commissioner Mary Kuney said the newly approved funding will allow the treatment center to double its capacity.
“Spokane County is making investments that will have an immediate impact on the community. Our goal is to fill key gaps in the behavioral health system and implement real solutions to address the urgent need for more treatment and services. Spokane County has heard the communities’ need for continued solutions to address the opioid crisis, and we acting swiftly and decisively” she said.
