SPOKANE, Wash. — Teens looking to earn volunteer hours for college applications can gain meaningful experience this summer mentoring young people with autism, rare disorders and developmental delays through the ISAAC Foundation’s TREK program.
TREK mentors support program participants through activities including exploring Spokane, crafts, games and outings designed to build social skills and friendships.
“This program is not only transformative for the participants, but also for the mentors who step up to be part of something special,” ISAAC Foundation organizers said. “We provide all the training and support needed. Kindness, patience, and enthusiasm are what matter most.”
The foundation requires no prior experience from mentor applicants. Training and support are provided to help mentors serve as friends, guides and role models for program participants.
Program sessions begin June 23 and continue weekly throughout the summer. Mentors can sign up for one or more full weeks, but the foundation asks applicants to commit to entire weekly sessions to maintain consistency in relationships with participants.
The program operates from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with no Friday or weekend commitments required. Interested teens can apply online through the ISAAC Foundation’s website.
