LEWISTON, Idaho — Fire crews worked through the night to battle a more than 200-acre wildfire north of Lewiston that burned one structure and threatened numerous homes near Hatwai Road.
The fire is located near Hatwai and 42nd Street North, northeast of Lewiston.
As of 11:30 a.m. on June 1, the fire is estimated to be about 250 acres and is 50% contained, according to Idaho Department of Lands.
IDL said winds have calmed down and that there is currently no “active fire behavior.”
Crews are securing the fire line and moving into the mop-up phase.
Nez Perce Sheriff’s Office has lifted all evacuations orders.
The IDL reported as of 1 a.m. Sunday that 40 firefighters were battling the Hatwai Wildfire, which was burning in steep terrain with gusty winds making it difficult to contain the blaze.
Eight fire engines and one water tender supported firefighting efforts, according to IDL. The department received assistance from Nez Perce County Fire, Nez Perce Tribal Fire, rural fire districts and Asotin County Fire District 1.
Asotin County Fire District 1 reported Saturday night that many homes were threatened and crews evacuated neighborhoods. The fire district also said some people had been trapped by the fire, prompting emergency calls for help.
As of 10 p.m. Saturday night, Asotin County Fire District reported no injuries from the incident.
