SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — The Spokane County Regional Solid Waste System closed the Northside Transfer Station/Recycling Center after a hazardous gas release forced an emergency evacuation Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Spokane County Communications Manager, an unknown substance in the truck’s bed began releasing white gas, prompting officials to immediately evacuate and close the facility.
Fire District Four responded to the scene and is investigating the incident. No injuries were reported.
The transfer station will remain closed until further notice while authorities complete their investigation and determine the facility’s safety.
Residents who typically use the Northside facility will need to seek alternative disposal options while the station remains closed.
