SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Deputies arrested a man who tried to steal thousands of dollars worth of items from a store in Spokane Valley on Saturday, according to Spokane Valley Police Department.
On May 24 around 10 p.m., SVPD responded to a call about a theft at a store near Sprague Avenue and Sullivan Road.
When deputies arrived, an employee said a man had left the store with a cart-full of items without paying.
Employees told deputies that the man tossed the items in the parking lot once the cart’s wheels locked up, jumped a fence and ran off.
Deputies searched the area and soon found 58-year-old Donald E. Tibbitts Jr, who matched the description provided by the employees. He admitted to deputies that he did try to steal the items.
Tibbitts was booked into Spokane County Jail for second-degree theft and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.
The estimated cost of the items he attempted to steal was over $2,700.
