SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Memorial Day weekend means the unofficial start of summer fun for many, but Spokane County Fire District 4 wants to remind you to be safe while manning the grill this weekend.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, grills cause an average of 10,600 home fires across the nation every year.
The fire district has the following grilling safety tips you should follow to ensure a fun and incident-free Memorial Day weekend.
Use propane and charcoal grills outside only. Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings and overhanging branches.Check your gas grill hoses for leaks before you start grilling.Regularly clean your grill to remove grease and fat buildup.Never leave your grill unattended.Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grilling area to prevent burns or injuries.Have a fire extinguisher, a bucker of sand or baking soda nearby to put out any unexpected fires.
