HAYDEN, Idaho — Residents planning Memorial Day activities at Honeysuckle Beach will need to adjust their schedules as the popular recreation spot closes temporarily for memorial ceremonies.
The City of Hayden announced the beach and boat launch will be off-limits from 9-11 a.m. on Monday, May 26 to accommodate two ceremonies honoring fallen military personnel.
The day begins with a 9:30 a.m. tribute at the Honeysuckle Beach Submarine Memorial dedicated to service members lost at sea. Attendees will witness a solemn wreath-laying ceremony accompanied by prayer, a rifle salute and the playing of taps.
Following this observance, a second ceremony starts at 11 a.m. at McIntire Family Park near Hayden City Hall. Mayor Davis will welcome attendees before Marine Corps Veteran Joseph Lowe delivers the Memorial Day address.
The program includes the presentation of colors, National Anthem performed by local talent Paige Dance, and the reading of newly installed memorial pavers.
The Northern Lakes Fire Protection District Honor Guard will retire the colors as the Hot Punch Highlanders perform “Amazing Grace” on bagpipes to conclude the ceremony.
Both events are open to the public, with normal beach operations resuming after 11 a.m.
