Washington’s Discover Pass is increasing in price for the first time in over a decade.
The annual Discover Pass, which allows a car to park in Washington’s state parks and lands, will increase from $30 to $45 in October.
The increase was signed into law by Governor Ferguson on May 17 and is meant to help keep Washington’s state parks “open, staffed and operational,” according to a press release from Washington State Parks.
In an effort to offset the state’s multi-million dollar shortfall, the Washington Legislature also reduced general fund appropriations and added new costs to State Parks.
“In the 2025-27 biennium, approximately 71% of the funding for State Parks will be from earned revenue as opposed to about 65% in the current biennium,” reads the press release.
