COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — The landscape at one of Idaho’s most iconic destinations has undergone its annual transformation as the Coeur d’Alene Resort completed its famous “Geranium Day” tradition.
Resort crews successfully planted more than 30,000 bright red geraniums throughout the property, creating a stunning visual display that signals summer has arrived in the Lake City.
The vibrant flowers, which have become a signature element of the resort’s aesthetic, are now on full display for both residents and visitors to enjoy.
“The community loves it. They love to see it,” said Amy VanSickle, Director of Marketing for the Coeur d’Alene Resort. “What day is it going to be? When is it going to come? And then they get that surprise when they drive up that day of the pop of color. Geranium day has arrived.”
The tradition, which always takes place just after Mother’s Day, carries a touching personal connection.
It was started by resort founder Duane Hagadone specifically to honor his mother with her favorite flower, adding a sentimental dimension to the spectacular display that draws visitors from across the region.
Behind the scenes, the Tango Dark Red geraniums are grown by Lima Greenhouse in Spokane, continuing a partnership between the two family businesses that has lasted more than 30 years.
The greenhouse begins preparing the flowers months in advance to ensure they’re ready for their annual debut at the resort.
