SPOKANE, Wash. — A Michigan man was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for producing and distributing child sex abuse material in Eastern Washington.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington, 33-year-old Daniel Augustine Solis will also face a lifetime of supervised release and was forced to pay $615 in restitution.
Court documents revealed that in the fall of 2019, Solis lived with his girlfriend in Eastern Washington.
During that time, Solis monitored his girlfriend’s actions through social media and various apps on her phone.
Solis eventually moved to Michigan, where the U.S. Attorney’s Office said he continued a pattern of manipulation.
On his demand, the girlfriend agreed to create sexually explicit videos involving a minor and send them to Solis.
In February 2020, Solis threatened to report his girlfriend to police for the videos after the girlfriend told her mother that Solis had access to the family cell phone plan. Solis continued with the threats for several hours unless she created more videos involving the child.
Court documents said Solis gave her specific instructions for the videos, including the time length.
After the videos were created, Solis became upset with his girlfriend again. He then logged into her phone account and sent the videos to his girlfriend’s coworkers and friends.
Solis pleaded guilty to the charge on November 4, 2024, after the evidence came forward of the text conversation between Solis and his co-defendant.
“Daniel Solis committed acts of unimaginable cruelty and exploitation,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney Richard Barker. “His manipulation and abuse caused profound harm, and today’s sentence reflects the seriousness of those crimes. The Department of Justice remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the most vulnerable in our communities—our children—and to holding predators accountable wherever they are found.”
