SPOKANE, Wash. — The Bemiss and Hillyard Neighborhood Councils hosted a drive-through garbage collection event to help residents clean up their community.
Neighbors dropped off unwanted items, improving the area and making it safer and cleaner for everyone.
“It’s a way for neighbors to clean up. It’s a way to brighten up the neighborhood,” said Laura Johnson, Community Assembly Representative for the Hillyard Neighborhood Council. “I think people feel good that they can get rid of stuff that maybe they didn’t want to go to the dump for, because maybe it’s for items and they didn’t want to waste the gas money or spend the money. So it’s just a way to get everyone involved.”
Volunteers from across the region made the event possible, including a man from Spokane Valley and a work crew from the Department of Corrections.
The Neighborhood Council says this annual cleanup relies on community support to keep the neighborhood clean and welcoming.
