STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — A driver was killed when he hit a moose in the road north of Chewelah Monday.
According to Washington State Patrol, a 41-year-old Valley man was driving north on Highway 395 near Kramer Road around 9 p.m.
WSP says the driver hit the moose and stopped on the shoulder. Troopers believe a second vehicle hit the moose carcass but did not stop at the scene.
The driver was taken to an area hospital where he died. A 37-year-old Chewelah woman was also in the car and life flighted to a Spokane hospital.
The identity of the driver will be released at a later time.
